MS Windows NT Thread Scheduling

Microsoft Windows NT is a modern, true 32-bit multitasking preemptive operating system. Windows New Technology (not NeTworking as many people believe) is Microsoft's enterprise level operating system that has modern features such as robustness, security, POSIX compliance, multiprocessor support, stability, multitasking, soft real time capabilities, excellent network support and open systems architecture. Windows NT provides support for several microprocessor architectures including Intel, MIPS R4000, DEC Alpha and the PowerPC. It is both a layered and modular system architecture. There are two flavors of Windows NT: Workstation and Server. Both versions use the same kernel and operating system code, but Server is configured for client-server networking applications and
Workstation is configured for calculation intensive applications. NT Server gives higher priority to
network applications and NT Workstation gives priority to user applications such that the response time
is minimized.
